Free Me

My eyes are dry,

my cheeks are wet;

My feelings bruised from your neglect

My lips are dry

And chapped

And bleeding;

But still you feed me lies–

Your falsehoods crawl inside my ears

There they die and shrivel to dust.

And yet I stay,

As if I must

Although I should’ve long been gone.

My fears chain me to the floor,

And you watch me

mock me

laugh at my trampled dreams.

I’m begging you:

Let me, oh won’t you

Please

Let me go.
