Breathe

You told me to breathe,

as you held me under

the sound of your voice

was a muted thunder

and the water poured into me,

it filled my ears with silence;

The world faded to a distant gleam

and I gave up to the violence.

I let myself go,

and bade life goodbye;

Death filled my sight with smoke,

and breath left me with a sigh.

A blessed peace infused my soul,

and the waters around me

were no longer cold.

But before I could fully

go into the dark,

Before I could give up

my fading lifespark,

A hand reached down

and ripped me from bliss;

Took from me the peace

that I had in my fists.

Though the dark offered solace

by the light I was found;

Drug into harsh day,

lying alive on the ground.
